to: how do I want to utilize the cash, which<br>was so generously donated to me, to put this event together? I could<br>blow almost the entire amount on a smaller space with no built-in<br>projector, just to do it sooner rather than later. Or I could hold<br>off until whenever the library happens to be free, and spend the money<br>on other things, like the movie we were hoping we could screen, and<br>perhaps a prize to give away (I think one or two Atari Flashback 2+<br>would be appreciated by the show attendees). The latter is the<br>obvious choice (and the more polite use of the donations).<br><br>Some history...<br><br>In 2009, I put the show together (albeit for a much shorter length)<br>with fairly short notice, and with help from 5 people (3 local to<br>Sac/Davis; and one of those introduced himself to me via email<br>literally the day before the event, to ask if he could bring his<br>2600.)<br><br>I spent maybe $80 on it
(out of pocket), since it was almost enitrely<br>after-hours at the library (6pm-9pm). About $50 of that was snacks,<br>drinks and cupcakes that I decided to bring.<br><br>Nearly half of the systems (7 out of the 15) that were set up were<br>from my own collection, and Bob Woolley accounted for another 25%.<br><br><br>So I have to keep in mind that I can do this moslty by myself... as<br>much as I want every one of you awesome, friendly people to make it,<br>the more of you there are, the less likely it is. It's highly likely<br>that I'll continue doing this (or convince someone to take over for me<br>:) ) each year, so it's not like this is your last chance to ever come<br>do this.<br><br>ALSO keep in mind that this is NOT meant to be another Classic Gaming<br>Expo or Midwest Gaming Classic, or even Vintage Computer Festival or<br>Pin-A-Go-Go. I am not, and never have, wanted it to be that large.<br>In terms of being a 'regional'
event, it's meant for Davis &<br>Sacramento, and any video game industry or old college friends I can<br>convince to come out from the greater SF Bay Area.<br><br>The original Atari Party was literally meant to be me & a bunch of<br>friends in my living room, but since so many people liked the idea, I decided<br>to do something a little bigger. (Doing it at the library the first year<br>meant I needed to make it a public event, which I decided would be pretty<br>cool, and it turned out to be pretty popular.) The fact that folks like<br>Sal and Conrad are coming to it from _out of state_ is amazing, but even then,<br>I'd rather not burn $300 just to be able to schedule it around them.<br>I'd be shocked if they couldn't sweat out a year without my little event. ;^)<br><br><br>So, Bob, I can ask the library of the 18th is available if you insist.<br>Anything beyond that, and the pricing for a movie changes --<br>Swank charges different
licesing fees depending on the season, the<br>audience size, and indoor/outdoor. (I double-checked that 6/11 still<br>counts as "spring" to them.)<br><br>Anything before the 11th, and we can't use the library, and I'd have<br>to shell out nearly $300 (so nearly everything people have been gracious<br>enough to donate to me!) to rent a room from the city.
