RSTS has a similar story.  It doesn't support CTERM at all (in either direction).  It normally supports only the RSTS specific protocol.  But as part of the "unsupported utilities" there is an unsupported variant of the set-host utility (net.tsk -- the unsupported one is netuns.tsk) which contains support for all four of the old protocols (RSTS, RSX, VMS, TOPS + Linux).
