In light of this unfortunate incident (see article below), can I ask the
NAPPC beekeepers if there is a standardized way to notify or register with
local authorities (police, fire, 911) to serve as an on-call bee swarm
collector?

Most authorities will not call pest control agencies if they receive a
public call for immediate action.

Thanks for your ideas,

~Kim

"Bee Swarm Barricades Customers

April 9, 2006 -- A massive bee swarm forces the El Paso Fire Department to
spring into action.

Three fire units responded to an eastside Luby's restaurant just after 2:00
Sunday afternoon after a customer reported hundreds of bees swarming by
their car.

The customer ran inside and asked for help.

The manager of the restaurant took no chances and called a pest control
company as well as firefighters.

Customers inside the Luby's were forced to stay indoors while crews handled
the problem.

"The fire department came by and they sprayed it with some insecticides and
some poisons once they got it taken care of they announced to everyone that
they could leave, they were inside the building for about an hour," said
Victor Valadez, the manager of Luby's.

No one was injured.

Fire officials say they only respond to bee swarms if a person or pet is in
immediate danger.
