[Pollinator] Fw: roads & pollinators

With respect to the abstract listed below, and other recent pubs on
improving or restoring butterfly or pollinator habitat near roads, who is
looking at mortality and also genetic isolation due to the barrier of the
road? About a year ago there was an article from work in the NE USA that
demonstrated genetic isolation and drift as well as high mortality to
insects from roads. I believe more discussion and research is warranted
before we begin making recommendations to improve habitat of any kind for
any critters adjacent to roads.

Jennifer Hopwood - Abstract Attached

Jennifer defended her thesis on the 13th of July. The abstract is
from a talk given at a recent meeting. The results of Jennifer's
study clearly show that habitat restoration involving native species
results in an increase in the abundance and richness of the bee
fauna. Chip
