This is the FOURTH Pollinator Bill to be introduced. It provides a
complementary pollinator HABITAT bill on the House side.

Rep Blumenauer (D-OR) announced his plans to introduce pollinator habitat
legislation similar to Baucus bill (S. 1494) when testifying at today's
Natural Resources pollinator oversight hearing.

The plan is to introduce this Thursday so can be announced at Friday
pollinator stamp ceremony @ USDA.

Legislative language is being finalized, but it will be similar to Baucus
bill, which added 'pollinator habitat' to several existing conservation
title programs.

GROUP Statement attached & provided below. Note that E.O. Wilson has
already signed on.

Hastings' staff has indicated Hastings will cosponsor.

James Koski is contact in Blumenauer's office. James.koski at mail.house.gov.

RE: Support for Pollinator Protection Habitat Act of 2007
CC: Original Cosponsors

Dear Representative Blumenauer:

The undersigned support your introduction in the House of the Pollinator
Protection Habitat Act of 2007.

Your legislation utilizes existing Farm Bill conservation programs to
strengthen both native and managed pollinator habitat by requiring existing
conservation programs to acknowledge pollinator habitat as a conservation
resource and rewarding producers whose conservation practices are beneficial
for pollinators.

Your bill complements the Pollinator Protection Act of 2007 introduced by
Representative Alcee Hastings, with you as a cosponsor, which focuses on
pollinator research. Your bill is consistent with S. 1494, introduced by
Senator Max Baucus, which focuses on habitat conservation.

Pollinators are essential partners in much of agriculture and in healthy
ecosystems. Strengthening farm bill conservation, research and other
programs in the farm bill to better address pollinator habitat needs and
best management practices represents a critical step in sustaining and
enhancing pollinators and their habitat.

Thank you for your continuing leadership on behalf of pollinators and
pollinator conservation.

Respectfully Submitted,
