Despite ongoing rain, I was able to get out "This Week at Hilton Pond" to document a variety of natural history happenings during the first half of August. The latest photo essay for 1-15 August 2013 has something for almost everyone: Two wildflower species--one new for the property; an appropriately named fungus; pollination; avian disease and feeders; a hummingbird with an unusual appendage; and a well-timed but unexpected appearance by an acrobatic snake.

While there don't forget to scroll down for a list of birds banded and recaptured during the period, plus miscellaneous nature notes AND a link to the announcement about our second-ever Operation RubyThroat hummingbird expedition to warm, sunny Nicaragua in late February 2014. Sign up now while space is still available!

Happy Nature Watching!
