Subject: Habitat Tip - Pollinators creating wildlife food sources

Colleagues,

This weeks ‘Video Monday Habitat Tip’ brings a different perspective on why pollinators are so important. I think most of us now understand that Great Pollinator Habitat = Great Wildlife Habitat, but have you stopped to think about how important pollinators are in ‘stocking the shelves’ for wildlife food resources in late fall and winter?

This tip lays the ground work for continued discussions about why having healthy, growing honey bee and native pollinator populations will help to produce abundant food resources for wildlife this winter. Just like increased pollination from honey bees created more apples in my orchard this year, it will also create more of the seeds that wildlife will be foraging on this winter. Making the connection between supporting healthy pollinator populations and helping get more wildlife through the winter in better physical condition!
