[Pollinator] A strange phenomenon reported

I have also found some bees on metal collecting rust or something smaller that I cannot see. I don't believe it is dangerous, just the intelligent creatures finding what they need in the environment. They do not appear sickly and the hives in the area are not reporting any spike in losses.... I would love to hear a professionals opinion on the metal attraction... Could it simply be them looking for some extra iron that is easily absorb-able in their diet?

:)

A strange phenomenon reported - hundreds of bumble bees visiting/alighting on rusted metal on galvanized sheeting.
They seem to be ingesting something along rusty patches of galvanized sheeting.

Have you any idea why? Is this likely to poison them? Can they be discouraged safely for their own good ?
