Subject: palmer's amaranth
To: Laurie Adams <LDA at pollinator.org>

there was a note form a Hank jones wondering why a native species like
palmer's amaranth is such a problem for farmers. I replied but his mailbox
is full

can you post my message?

There are new biotypes of Palmer's amaranth that are resistant to weed
control. They can reduce the crop yield leading to a waste of resources and
reduction of the farmer's already meagre income. As more such weeds evolve
we will tend toward the old days when weeds caused crop failure and
economic hardship such as has not been known for more than 60 years.
