[Pollinator] New on the Xerces blog: Regulating neonics in California, and the problem with seed coatings

New on the Xerces blog: California’s Department of Pesticide Regulation is
proposing to restrict the use of neonics (neonicotinoid insecticides) on
farmland. This is a good step forward, but the proposals have a huge
loophole—they don’t include the use of neonic seed coatings. These coatings
might account for over half a million pounds of neonics applied in
California each year, potentially more than all other reported uses of
neonics in the state, and leave native bees exposed to risk.

Sarah Hoyle from Xerces’ pesticide team explains more about this problem
and what’s being done to close the loophole: Xerces Urges California to
Step Up for Pollinators
