This talk is part of the Bee Biogeography and Systematics Talks (BeeBST), a series of monthly webinars on bee systematics, taxonomy and biogeography presented by the Packer Lab and the Centre for Bee Ecology, Evolution and Conservation at York University. It is aimed at a general audience of people interested in bees and pollinators, and especially with those interested in bee classification and biogeography.
The series started off with taxonomy of giant honey bees (Jan 26th; recording available here<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoHx18ndsLo&t=5s>) and was followed by biogeography of bumble bees (Feb. 23rd; recording will be made available soon). The next talk (March 30th) will deal with cleptoparasitic bees, followed by one on Anthophorinae (April 27th) and then one on andrenids (May 25th). We recognize that many Indigenous Nations have longstanding relationships with the territories upon which York University campuses are located that precede the establishment of York University. York University acknowledges its presence on the traditional territory of many Indigenous Nations. The area known as Tkaronto has been care taken by the Anishinabek Nation, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, and the Huron-Wendat. It is now home to many First Nation, Inuit and Métis communities. We acknowledge the current treaty holders, the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. This territory is subject of the Dish with One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement to peaceably share and care for the Great Lakes region.
