<P><FONT face=Verdana size=2><STRONG><FONT color=#009966>WELCOME<BR></FONT></STRONG>The <A class="" title=http://www.wildlifehc.org/ href="http://www.wildlifehc.org/" target=_blank>Wildlife Habitat Council</A>’s (WHC) Restoring Greenspace 2007 conference is quickly approaching. This series of conferences is designed to help participants strategize the necessary problem-solving steps in making ecological enhancements a reality. The conference will focus on the incorporation of ecological reuse practices in site restoration in U.S. EPA Region 4.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Verdana size=2>For the first time, <A class="" title=http://www.wildlifehc.org/events/restoringgreenspace_agenda.cfm href="http://www.wildlifehc.org/events/restoringgreenspace_agenda.cfm" target=_blank>Continuing Education Units</A> (CEU) will be offered for those attending the conference. CEUs are a nationally recognized method of quantifying time spent during professional development and training activities and can be submitted as proof of continuing education to state licensing boards and employers. They are important for documenting career enhancing activities, and earned units will be based on actual instruction time at the event. Ten (10) hours of instruction equal one (1) CEU. Both workshops and the conference will be offered for continuing education credits through the University of Georgia Fanning Institute with no charge for this service. </FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Verdana size=2><A class="" title=http://www.wildlifehc.org/events/restoringgreenspace_news.cfm href="http://www.wildlifehc.org/events/restoringgreenspace_news.cfm" target=_blank>Jimmy Palmer</A>, Regional Administrator of EPA’s southeast region will provide opening remarks at the conference. “As we encourage communities to achieve their economic goals through responsible development, land revitalization and restoration of contaminated sites are vital components of success,” said Palmer. “Through partnerships with state and local governments, other federal agencies, corporations, non-profit organizations, and academia, revitalization and restoration efforts will allow us to pass on to the next generation a healthier, safer, more prosperous world.”</FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Verdana size=2><STRONG><FONT color=#009966>NEW PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOPS<BR></FONT></STRONG>WHC will offer <A class="" title=http://www.wildlifehc.org/events/restoringgreenspace_agenda.cfm href="http://www.wildlifehc.org/events/restoringgreenspace_agenda.cfm" target=_blank>two pre-conference workshops</A> with leading experts on Monday, May 21, 2007. These workshops will set the stage for the main goals of the conference and familiarize participants with unique and improved techniques of ecological enhancements. </FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Verdana size=2>Throughout the following two days of Restoring Greenspace 2007, <A class="" title=http://www.wildlifehc.org/events/restoringgreenspace_agenda.cfm href="http://www.wildlifehc.org/events/restoringgreenspace_agenda.cfm" target=_blank>breakout sessions</A> will focus on wetlands, managing liability and community engagement to name just a few key topics. Remediation of contaminated wetlands poses additional challenges to environmental managers, regulators and conservation organizations. Our nation’s coastal and freshwater wetlands are critical for both biodiversity and local economies thereby the stakes are high for successful remediation. </FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Verdana size=2>Two breakout sessions will focus on varying <A class="" title=http://www.wildlifehc.org/events/restoringgreenspace_agenda.cfm href="http://www.wildlifehc.org/events/restoringgreenspace_agenda.cfm" target=_blank>wetlands issues</A>. North American Wetland Engineering (NAWE) will share the successes and challenges of a passive treatment system at an NPL site in New York. NAWE is the leader in the decentralized water and wastewater industry, providing innovative and ecological solutions for industrial, residential and municipal clients. Ducks Unlimited, Inc. will discuss one of the largest estuarine habitat restoration projects currently underway in the United States. Also hear from AMEC Earth and Environmental, Florida Department of Environmental Protection and NOAA Restoration Center.</FONT></P>
