will be displayed in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City
w:st="on">Kennebunkport</st1:City>, <st1:State
w:st="on">Maine</st1:State></st1:place> at the Gallery on Chase Hill in the
annual “From the Garden” show.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>The
works, part of Daphne Boyer’s garden-inspired art, will be exhibited from June
27 – July 16.</FONT></SPAN></P>

face="Times New Roman" size=3>Daphne has drawn on her plant science and
entomology studies, as well as her renowned garden in the Eastern Townships of
<st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Quebec</st1:place></st1:State>, to
create breathtaking paper mobile sculptures. It is through the simple elegance
of these hand-crafted paper butterflies that she conveys her sense of wonder
about plant – insect symbiosis, and her concern for plant pollinators. “We can
thank pollinators for one of every three mouthfuls of food we eat,” she says.

<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><SPAN lang=EN-CA><FONT
size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">An organic gardener for 30 years, Daphne has
vast experience collaborating with the bug world. The insect population is just
one of the environmental issues she addresses in her work. While the observer
might be drawn in by the beauty and simplicity of her pieces, for Daphne the
works form part of her social commentary.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes">

face="Times New Roman" size=3>A student of textile design, Daphne had to abandon
all art-making in 1990s when she became ill from the chemicals used in fabric
dyeing, painting and sculpture. She retreated to her garden, and it not only
healed her, but opened the door to a new way of creating using inert materials
in her low-chem studio in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City
w:st="on">Sutton</st1:City>, <st1:State
w:st="on">Quebec</st1:State></st1:place>.</FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><SPAN lang=EN-CA><o:p><FONT
face="Times New Roman" size=3> </FONT></o:p></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><SPAN lang=EN-CA><FONT
size=3><FONT face="Times New Roman">Daphne considers her latest sculptures a
tribute to the fragile power of pollinators.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>“My garden is home to beautiful plants,
but they wouldn’t be here without pollinating insects. I hope my art offers
others the opportunity to realize their beauty, and feel encouraged to maintain
the habitat necessary for their survival,” says Boyer. <SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN></FONT></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><SPAN lang=EN-CA><o:p><FONT

face="Times New Roman" size=3>Boyer’s self-produced creations marry good design,
digital imaging and hand-made craftsmanship in limited-edition sculptures.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>The complicated production process (she
creates designs from plant leaves, flowers and stems which she then prints onto
paper and sculpts into insect shapes) results in the creation of sculptures that
are true to the collection’s name – Flying Flowers.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>She says she hopes her clients will love
her work and wonder what she is commenting on when they buy
it.</FONT></SPAN></P>
