Butterflies used as barometer for environmental health

teams to track butterfly populations in order to gauge the health of local
environments.</FONT> <BR><FONT face=Arial size=1>The flying insects are good
indicators because they are sensitive to environmental changes and habitat loss,
the scientists say.</FONT> <BR><FONT face=Arial size=1>"When you see the absence
of butterflies, you know something is wrong," said Jerry Payne, an entomologist
fresh off a counting expedition to Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge in
