<font size=5><b>Seattle bans city use of bee-killing

pesticides</b></font> <br><br>

<h5><b></b></h5>The Seattle City Council has banned the municipal use of

a class of pesticides that has been linked to bee deaths.<br><br>

The council earlier this week passed a resolution to eliminate the use of

neonicotinoids on all land owned and operated by the city.<br><br>

Councilmember Mike O'Brien says it's a modest step to help protect bees

and other pollinators.<br><br>

The city will look for other bee-friendly ways to control weeds and pests

on its properties.<br><br>

In July, federal wildlife refuges in the Northwest and Hawaii announced

they would phase out the pesticides by January 2016, because they pose a

threat to bees and other pollinators key to crop

growth.</blockquote></body>
