Actually, the guilty party was my flatmate who'd unplugged the network cable to the machine running the bridge program so he could connect his laptop to it. A big pit is being dug in the garden very soon.

And 1.250 came online 23:36, about 10 minutes after this was posted... I suspect the "guilty" person is the owner of that node... :-)
