[HECnet] VMS question

Johnny, I hope you are not responsible to pay the power bill for that set up!
I've always liked the 8650, neat piece of equipment. Never seen a VAX 7000 ‎in my life, they're similar in appearance to a 6000?

No, SCSI.

I might as well give the full hardware setup at Update, as there are 
probably more people around amused by this.

Update have one 7000-720 and one 8650 in the computer hall, in addition 
to one PDP-11/70. (There are also other machines around, but mostly PC 
stuff, and some SUN).

The PDP-11/70 is MAGICA:: (Magica.Update.UU.SE), which I also brought up 
two days ago. Magica have 3.5 meg of memory, ethernet, 4xRA73, RL02, 
RX02, TU81, RK05. We should probably throw in an RK07 as well, and it 
also have three massbuses. We have RP06, RP07, TU77 and TU78, but they 
are not in the hall. But it's possible to hook things up if needed.

The VAX-8650 have 60 Meg of memory, one SBI, one CI, two Unibuses, 
ethernet, DMF-32 and two UDA-50. It has 8xRA73 hooked up for NetBSD, and 
boots over CI for other software. It can run as Krille.Update.UU.SE 
(NetBSD or VMS), or Zeke.Update.UU.SE (Ultrix)

The 7000-720 have two CPUs (obviously) and 1.25 Gig of memory. It have 
ethernet and CI.

On the CI we also have HSJ40 controllers. We have a large storage works 
cabinet, which actually have six HSJ40 setup as three redundant pairs. 
Each pair have six shelves, and each shelve can fit six storage works 
bricks. So we could (in theory) have 108 disks connected.
But in reality we only have 12 disks. We have a VMS distribution CD 
dumped on one. We have an Ultrix system which uses two disks, and we 
have two different VMS disks. One for a cluster, where both the 7000 and 
the 8650 have separate systems, and one for the standalone VMS running 
on the 8650, if we want that. We also have a HSC90 in storage, and a few 
more racks of RA92 disks (and some other RA disks as well.)
The rest of the disks we're not using at the moment. I don't remember 
exactly what model of SCSI disks we have. But they are approximately 2 
Gig each.


We've spent the last week cleaning things up, reconnecting everything, 
and fixing various issues. So now all this hardware is running. Which is 
why you can also see that MAGICA:: is back online. We'll see if we can 
keep the stuff running for now.

(There is more fun stuff in our storage, but I won't bore you with it, 
nor to mention what we've had to throw away over the years... :-( )
