Eclipse
Hey, the moon doesn't care
and the clouds don't either.
It was just by chance
that the veil lifted
and there she was
small round inscrutable
high away up in the solstice sky.
A different color,
yes, a little rosy like they’d said,
but only a little,
otherwise not so very different
from any other midnight moon.
Then the cloud curtains closed
and I went back inside.
It was tempting to personify,
but I didn't.
It was just by luck the mist drew back,
just by chance
the rains held off,
and when I felt that friendly
though distant moon saying
“Hello, how do I look like this?”
it was just me making it up.
