Listening To The Republicans
   Winter 2016

I don’t want
to be inspired

I don’t need
to be uplifted

I want 
to descend

to walk down 
to where their pain is,
to where fear,
like a 
week-old 
rotting corpse,
has absolutely
nothing good to say

I want to listen
to the stench

to the terror

so that when I return
I can keep my heart 
open,

so that I
can remember
where
and what
they were
taught.
