The Pact
It was broken before
We arrived, the pact with
Life. Shattered like crystal
Heaved in fearful fury. All our
Lives, we walk across
The sparkling glass
Bleeding out breathing
In the agony of Ages.
How could we know
We came as witnesses?
Our job to see beyond
Even our own cynicism
The pessimism inherited
>From millennia and millions.
Our work
Immerse in mourning
Inhale distilled sorrow
Become an alchemist
Convert loss into love.
