Our Turn
Everything comes to me
Now in tatters, ripped
Un-wholly, and unholy.
When I reach for You
You are air, everywhere
And empty.
We are bleeding
Bleeding out terrors
Torn, drawn, quartered
Questioning why
Us, why now?
This fight—for
Freedom, Justice
Just now, like air
Everywhere,
Nothing new, an old,
An ancient fight.
An expression in Spanish:
"Nos toca a nosotros."
Taken literally,
It touches us,
Like a tap on the shoulder
Or a truncheon
It means "it's our turn,"
Our turn now.
