Listening

Listening to trees.

I asked
if they have been talking to me
all along.

“We’ve been listening,
 contentedly,
as you’ve been listening
to others,
to Spirit's voice,
to Grandpa Fire,
to your hilltop Oak.

“And remember
the log that spoke to you
in Wiricuta
as you placed it
on Grandpa Fire.

“Who you hear
depends upon you,
upon where you are
in your listening.

“Everything,
of course,
has a voice.”
