The Petaluma Poetry Walk is celebrating its 25th year of bringing a beautiful day of poetry to our area. The event takes place on September 15th. It includes 24 poets reading at eight different venues in downtown Petaluma from 11 am until 8 in the evening.

This event has received reduced funding recently from Poets & Writers magazine. We are raising funds in order to provide the poets with a modest stipend and hope to be able to provide an amount at least equal to our previous level of support.

Any help that you could give to celebrate poetry in the North Bay and the whole region would be most appreciated. Its is your support that makes this great tradition possible. Ars Poetica

A poem should be palpable and mute
As a globed fruit,

Dumb
As old medallions to the thumb,

Silent as the sleeve-worn stone
Of casement ledges where the moss has grown—

A poem should be wordless
As the flight of birds.

                         *

A poem should be motionless in time
As the moon climbs,

Leaving, as the moon releases
Twig by twig the night-entangled trees,

Leaving, as the moon behind the winter leaves,
Memory by memory the mind—

A poem should be motionless in time
As the moon climbs.

                         *

A poem should be equal to:
Not true.

For all the history of grief
An empty doorway and a maple leaf.

For love
The leaning grasses and two lights above the sea—

A poem should not mean
But be.
