How Can Goodness Prevail?
How can goodness prevail in the lockstep of our fears
and the torments of our othering?
To tread ever so lightly that we do not injure
seems a tall order for our troubled psyches
stepping into the future, blind in a dark room.
Hate is so easy,
love so often a kind of unbearable vulnerability,
the exposure of uncertainty,
the humility of tolerance.
Violence is so easy,
just an afterthought to our cruel certitudes,
gentleness ill-afforded
in the bankruptcies of our presumptions.
We dance as we do,
but what piper calls the tune,
which piper do we pay,
and at what cost?
The trampling continues,
the din disturbs deeply.
No solutions.
