Writing To Iraq
It would
take them
no trouble
to approve
your next
hour
by seconds
and minutes
with a
rag tied
over
your eyes
The next
morning
could be
put into
a rubber
hose
and used
to beat
you
When you
march
in the streets
together
when you
ask them
to give
you back
your country
And then
many
are shot /
killed
and wounded
around you
They tell you
there is
still time
to turn back
into history
But instead you
keep moving
And the streets
under your
sky
continue to
gather
to swell
with even
more voices
All pain
can be
doubled
But you
see a way
to welcome
another future
into your
hands
And that
keeps you moving forward
