Peace In A Time Of Revolution

To be still
in the curl of chaos.

To welcome dark waters
and lightning strike
that leave me gasping
on this near shore.

To taste threaded filaments
drinking deep of earth
as merciful wind
whips leaves, blasts dead branches.

To choose this rough real
-a sacredness of heart
emptied of all but Yes-
over smooth masks of the good

The peace of God
is not my favored sleep, alas,
but rather knowing
this bloody death is bloody birth.
