Out The Window

The pear tree has opened its doors.

What, this season, does the couturier bring?

What new fashion? What robe unforeseen?

Do its boughs bear turkeys or onions or swords?

They bring, in sacred repetition, the same dress

They bring, in sacred repetition, the same dress

as before. White, delicate, old-fashioned.

Yet surprising as words. Surprising as windows.

And as swords.
