Recollection

There also comes a time
When you turn away
>From those old stories
Endlessly retold;

The planning and rehearsing,
The regrets -
What you should have said,
What you wish you hadn’t;

The arguments with those not in attendance,
The cravings and the longings,
The needle stuck in the vinyl groove.
All the ways you make yourself real.

You simply have no more interest in the noise.
Finally you stop listening and inhale the silence.

Then the world sparkles
As if after a passing spring shower
And everyone you meet seems lit from within,
Saying “Good to see you; where have you been?”

And you know that all is well,
That all things are well
And all manner of things
Have always been well.
