Halloween Song
Dead
Dread
Drear
The drumbeat of dark words
Our forefathers gave us
To speak the unspeakable?
Hardly.
“I’ll be glad when you’re dead
You rascal you.”
So here comes Halloween
Gaily prancing around death –
Death of the dreadest kind:
Not final.
No, in this season between seasons,
the dead reappear
fleshless
or veiled, ghost- white,
apparitions inescapable,
in every window and doorway:
What merriment they bring!
Really?
