Heaven's Wing II

Once again Icarus falls,
	two white legs
	disappearing into the placid sea
only later to bear his name.

But what of the soaring boy
rising on those seabirds' wings, up and up
his small winged arms carrying him
	until he entered the sun.

What of that breathless wonder?

No one noticed his fall
for this is how it was told
	engaged as they were
in the everydayness of their lives.

Only his father Daedalus knew, as Icarus fell
	he had given his son
	all he had to give:
	the ecstasy of heaven's wing.
