Well of Calm

There is a well of calm
In every day.
Our job is to find it.

Is it to step outside
And have our coffee in
The cold of dawn?

To open to the songs
Of birds coming north
In the spring?

Is it to feel the light of
Dawn flooding
Our closed eyes?

The mist rising slowly
Through the distant
Forms of trees?

The leaves springing
Anew from branches
Brown and bare?

It shifts. It slides
seamlessly.
Ours is to find it
Again and again.
