Arrayan

When you walk in Patagonia
you get to meet the arrayans:
those red-barked water-loving trees
which were once home to Disney´s Bambi
and know how to bring cinnamon hues to the land.
I recently learnt that arrayan means
“the place where the last sunrays fall”.
While the rest of the forest settles into twilight
they are the holders of the last light
honored witnesses of the fading bright.
I´m sure we´re akin souls, arrayans and us.
They, holding the last golden light
of this ending day.
Us, holding the last healing hope
of this fading world.
