How unique and precious

it would be for me

to walk again once more

through a redwood forest

into a great hall where men

no better nor worse than I

embrace together in a circle

of soulful brotherhood

Each year to be fed

such amazing stories

of victories and defeats

told with raucous laughter

or through salty tears

of wrenching sorrow

These are my friends, my brothers,

my teachers, my uncles, my fathers

and yes, my grandfathers

all good men

no better or worse than I

how I long to get the good of them

just one more time
