listening 

trees
geese
whales
lizards
grasses 
canyons 
and mountains
all want to forgive us

but it’s hard

they get ready to forgive
and as they inhale,
before they can speak,
we do something 
more destructive,
more hurtful

as if, 
which is so sadly true,
we don’t know what we are doing,
we don’t understand 
how we are destroying,
how we are hurting
our world

and how we are all in this
together
