Peak Fall

Where I come from 
leaves fall from trees, 
but here they linger and 
speak before they die.

And it is rightly fêted 
by all who wait
in trepidation, 
for peak fall.

Peak fall
has a feeling
of shriving, and our 
reluctance to enter 
winter is summoned.
