In Abraham’s Tent
There once was room for all to
recline on pillows, partake of
olives and warm bread with
sesame and honey, and share
the stories that bound each
family and tribe to the other.
Look at the news now and
you’ll see Quassam and M75
rockets. You’ll see the rubble
and terror of airstrikes after
the unspeakable acts that
proceeded them. The tanks
and ground forces stand ready.
The political entities and the
various factions on each side
assume their usual stances.
Abraham’s tent is on fire.
Let this moment be a start.
>From that very place inside
our shattered hearts, we
can recall the the time
when Abraham and Sarah
welcomed three strangers
into their tent, washed
their feet, and provided
them with food and shelter.
Perhaps the peace begins
by remembering how the
story began.
