Dark Sky
Stars are exquisite company,
making you a heavenly host.
The sky at night,
the dreamers’ mirror,
making frail notions
of death seem juvenile,
and preposterous.
Stow away or
captain’s mate, it
is too easy to deny
the soft buffetings
of life’s bow, breaking
the waves of space
and time.
Do the stars tell us to
take our lives for granted?
Or are we aggrandized by
their scattered perfection?
Let us turn our lamps
down low, preserving
this divine horizon.
This place to celebrate
the glorious proof
our suspicions gift us.
The pure privilege
of not knowing,
the volatile wisdom
of letting.
The dark sky
is your life.
