Birthplace
We gave our bodies
to you for nine months the magic of life swirled as you were formed
Every tendon and ligament Every muscle and organ Every bone and vein
We fed you We felt you We loved you
As we waited for your birth our bodies
were your home
We gave life to you We pushed you out
Our breasts
were your life line
We watched you grow
Inside of ourselves
and outside of ourselves
Isn’t it fair to ask for respect Isn’t it fair
to honor your beginnings by honoring the bodies
that birthed you
Isn’t it fair to ask you not to take the life
of another
for Mother’s sake
