Newborn Fawn
One new green leaf just out of budding scintillates in wind that plays
like a harp through trees and lacy ferns.

One blade of grass shivers unseen under sun made true by a doe’s gentle
nudging of her young fawn to his first steps.

He stands at first so weak, wobbly and young-- but not for long.

Ahead there are no paths except the senses and the scents of a forest where he
might narrowly escape hunters.

Could our dreams be as tender, our prayers as simple and our running as far
from the hazards of deep woods?

Let this dappled fawn find welcome among the strong fibers of the trees
as it steps into life on trembling limbs.
