How to Help a Man with a Project
(advice for women, from someone with plenty of experience)

Put on old clothes, gloves,
and lipstick…
maybe a hat — or put up your hair.
Be prepared to wait patiently for instructions.
Do not offer suggestions.
If you see a potential problem, do not point this out —
it is not helpful, and he probably
is already aware of it.

Be prepared to deal with accidents,
but never say “watch out” or “careful!”
Do not be surprised to be admonished
for not following perfectly clear
contradicting instructions —
or for asking questions.
If an injury should occur,
recognize that you should have spoken up —
or that you actually caused the accident
by distracting him…

When the project is successfully completed,
be sure to praise his skill and workmanship,
and gracefully accept his thanks for your help.
He couldn’t have done it without you.
