despite the terrible future

I imagine for my grandchildren.

despite the country of my birth

being overrun by bullies

to be alive right now anyway

because I am and cannot be

what I am not, cannot live

where my body is not.

To be alive right now anyway

because no matter how I expected

endless dreams for my children

and theirs, right now is where we are.

right now is where we always are

so I will breath, love those children,

those grandchildren and know

that the right now they will inhabit

 is their’s. It never was mine.

The gift I offer them always:
