Finding Sanctuary

Listening
to all voices
a cascade of feelings
the sounds of chains
and explosions.
Disruption everywhere
My heart fills with tears
My body shakes with fear and anger

And yet
Remembering to pause
I wonder
What will happen next?
I think of the Zen farmer -
Whatever happened,
What was seen as good,
What was seen as bad,
He replied, “it could be good,
It could be bad - You never know.”
One never knows the end result
And this gives me a glimmer of hope,
a reality check, and an AHA.
That impermanence and not knowing
Is where sanctuary can be found,
In the pause
In the space of this only moment.
