Prayer
how I’d be if I could
is like a knife, one edge, solid steel
to cleave, maybe pierce, a simple thing,
and not the strange world I am, a guest house,
a chain of operations, a flying machine- ruled by a crude law:
harmony, which is the going on together, somehow beautifully
despite what would encroach and scatter, relentless
how dissonance shatters mechanism,
dissolves matter
just spare my flesh for a moment or
make me something harder to break
