Meditation On My Animal Brother

Our skins shed so much light 
we shimmer in the dark for days 
displaying and radiating the beauty 
of the two world creatures we are

Sometimes the animal I am stands unseen
by all the passing humans on the other side

And too, in my human mode  
I miss entirely across the chasm
the sleek ripple of your lustrous fur
as you chew on old memories in the moonlight

But that time I saw you clearly
stunning and unapologetic 
an animal in the skin of man
the wild creature in me growled and
danced the ground in jubilation

What joy to once again see
timeless as the flowing river between us
an animal brother at once fierce
and beautiful and ancient
still living the unforgotten
secret of wild things
