Let’s Give It Up For The Dark

Each Holiday season there’s much
buzz about light rescuing us from the dark.
Why, we treat it like a convicted felon.

Out come the Hanukah candles and
 the advent calendars, the blow-up
 Santas and those colorful illuminated
reindeer, all of this, of course, is to
 ‘drive away the dark’.

The source of this hullabaloo is
the winter solstice, tracked by various
 astronomers with barometers, astrologers
and mythologers who now inform us
that the universe is 68% dark energy,
27% dark matter, and a mere
5% light.
But darkness is ubiquitous, it’s beyond
the vast expanse of crimson in our
 evening sky,
below the shallow veneer of the
 emerald-green sunlit waters skimming
over the fathomless oceans; it’s the
great curtain that holds our mystery
dreams with subtle hues of insight
that elude us in the harsh light of day,

Let’s befriend the darkness,
Let’s watch her birth the miraculous,
the great one that holds us and softens
our sun parched sheathes of bustling
 neurons with some blessed relief.
She is the very mother of the
Cosmos itself.

Be nice to your mother!
