Solstice 2025
The darkest day, so far, in this “long dark”
feeling the dark in my blood and bones,
in my marrow; neither deadening nor heavy,
nothing to fear, wish away or run from.
This dark is alive, roiling, buzzing hive-like, a slow
spiralling hum, a series of exhales and blending
oscillations, smoke rings dissipating into
barely perceptible sparks, my heart’s dictum.
Flickers of remembrance, long before this life, long before
all lives, incessant urges, invention, evolution, devastation.
A prehistoric dark, yet right for the present that all inhabitants
of this planet now share. It is a reunion of sorts:
past, present and future swirling in the eye of the storm,
a storm of humanity’s incessant making.
Today, a dark and quiet storm, here in our comfortable bubble.
Tomorrow, who knows.
