Until
 
Until it begins to change,
until movie stars no longer attend star studded nights
wearing Armani, Gucci, Prada, or Ford,
until we are no longer dazzled by Cardinals draped in red,
until we stop seeking gold
and turn to the brown, dark humus of life,
until we return our attention away from what glitters
to the soft glow of heads bent in prayer,
to the shimmer of tears
and the cry of the baby pulled from the rubble
that was once her home
Until we can get our priorities right,
stop spending and craving and dying of greed,
we will miss the mark,
the reason we are here.
We will go on filling our shallow pans with fool’s gold
and miss the shine held in our children’s eyes.
