Names and Streets - Beau Beausoleil

Names
and
Streets 

1.
Almost every street 
in my neighborhood is named 
for a country or a city and in one case
a vast river region

I live near the corner of Lisbon and Italy 
and often rehab walk on Madrid

Near the park is Moscow which intersects
 with Geneva

Paris is just a few blocks away and Amazon
is at the end of my block

I like to walk near standing trees named
Oak and Eucalyptus 

I turn often to look at the houses 
on the hills south of here

they all shed the morning light towards 
our kitchen

2.
The named streets of Gaza all lead to death
as do now the streets of Tehran and Beirut

they are all losing the names of lives as I write this 

I know the streets of Ukraine shudder as the missiles
and drones seek innocent streets and living spaces

Generational streets also exist in refugee camps 

3.
And there are streets in this country so filled with ICE that 
it is almost impossible for Justice to pass through them

All these streets of rubble and ruin joined with streets of sorrow
and grief

4.
Is it too late to draw a map of murdered names and streets
to one day bring us home together in this rapidly fading light
