Dear Earth

I’m on your side.

We live with giants we call trees,
but their names are secret,
whispered between them,
carried by winds.

 I listen,
this is what I hear.

Be more branchy,
enlarge your canopy.
Dig in more rooty.
Practice immersion.
Send out invitations to
all who live treeishly.
Become arborescent.
Become leafy and fruity.
Become song bird,
a refuge for song.

Become gnarled and live long,
passionate about clouds,
and the grass growing at your feet,
and the flowers ribboning along the trails.
Bask in a sunset, brim to the rim
of your heart in a sunrise.

Become one with the green world.
Join the legacy of trees, who
stretch limbs of beauty and compassion
into the sky, down into
dark hungers for life.
Be open and inviting to strangers
and the strange.

So, walk among trees often,
then enter a grove and
do as trees do,
be silent and exult
where freedom still exists.
