For Beauty, Poetry
For beauty, poetry, its song and sound
to speak the now beyond profound,
each moment lost as soon as found,
with words to somehow capture
but a glimpse of this world’s rapture
before our own impossible departure.
But how the wickedness we witness
to the splendor make consistent,
when the one to other such a distance?
Between grim and goodness, the balance
tests our mettle and our talents,
with only our heart’s guidance.
The pain to see life’s betrayal
by us when we are in denial
and only offer love refusal,
can silence song and render
hope’s hot embers
a forlorn surrender.
I helpless stand and marvel,
impotent in time and shackled,
as to my end I travel.
But may I and you forgo despair, remain standing.
To keep singing
is no simple but the only calling,
